If
are thinking of becoming a ham radio operator and joining the
ranks of those Skywarn spotters who can go mobile here is your
opportunity.
The FCC has made it easier than ever to get your ham ticket.
There two main resources for you to learn the rules and regulations.
The first is the Now Your Talking, by the American Radio Relay
League. It contains all the information you need to take and
pass the technician class license test and there is no Morse
code test to take. The tech class license allows you to use
a hand held or mobile UHF/VHF radio.
These radios operate simplex, direct, or through a series of
repeaters throughout Southern California and the entire U.S.
while you travel.
Orange County Skywarn and RACES operate through these repeaters.
The 'Now Your Talking' can be purchased at Ham Radio Outlet
at 933 N. Euclid St. Anaheim, CA 92801. Telephone 714 533.7373
or 800 854.6046.
The second resource is online at www.qrz.com. Click on QRZ logo
above for practice tests. Posted there are a series of practice
tests you can take as often as you need until you feel comfortable
that you can take the real test and pass the first time.
When you feel you are ready for the test, you do not have to
go to the FCC office to take your test. There are a number of
local amateur radio clubs that sponsor test taking.
Go to the this link for testing sites here in Orange County.
